The latest Volume (No 87) of The Commentator is available to members via The Commentator dedicated page.  Here is a summary from the Editor:

Welcome to Volume 87 of The Commentator.

In her first President’s column, Venetia Stewart reflects on the many sports happenings in 2012 and early 2013. She remarks on the ongoing controversy across a number of football clubs arising from the ACC report on drug use.  She also tells of changes on the ANZSLA Board.

In the first article for this edition, Marvin Farrell, a senior solicitor in Russell McVeagh's corporate advisory team in Auckland looks at the ambush marketing issues that arose in respect of London 2012.

In the second article, Catherine Ordway, a Sport & Anti-Doping Consultant and Lecturer and PhD Candidate, National Institute of Sport Studies, University of Canberra looks at the current consideration by the Australian Government into widening the powers of ASADA to include the power to compel athletes and their support persons to self-incriminate.

The third article is from Annabel Linterman.  It outlines the various types of intellectual property that is protected by law and their applicability in sports. This article mainly draws on the New Zealand perspective.

Finally, Amy Snowsill, a lawyer in the Sydney office of Holman Webb Lawyers also discusses intellectual property rights.  However, it is mainly from an Australian perspective and with a concentration on social media marketing by athletes.

In my editorial I introduce readers to a remarkable athlete who I happen to work with.
