Welcome to the home page for the Australian and New Zealand Sports Law Association Inc.
ANZSLA is a non-profit organization dedicated to providing education, advocacy and networking opportunities on legal issues in sport to Australian and New Zealand sporting industries. Formed in 1990, ANZSLA now has a membership that includes lawyers, administrators, academics and government representatives; though membership is open to anyone with an interest in sport.
For further information on the benefits of membership, click here. A membership application form is available here.
ANZSLA would like to announce an exciting new initiative – the development of a sports law Legal Contact List. An application form is available from the ANZSLA office for members wishing to participate in it.
The Legal Contact List will be available from Monday, 14 July 2009 on the ANZSLA website and will also be provided on request to those seeking legal advice and/or representation via the ANZSLA office. The development of this list will continue to raise ANZSLA’s profile and recognition as an Association committed to addressing legal issues affecting sport and will also work in conjunction with ANZSLA’s continued involvement in educational events for sporting organisations and clubs.
Registrations are now open for the 2009 ANZSLA conference which will be held this year in Canberra from 7-9 October 2009! The theme for the conference is ‘The Price of Sport’. Conference sessions will discuss drugs in sport, sponsorship and gambling, sponsorship in a declining market, international sports arbitration, governance, organised crime in sport, social leadership and ethical decision making.
The conference will be held at the Rydges Lakeside, Canberra and will open with the President's Cocktail Party in ANZSLA’s marquee amid the tapestry of colour of Floriade on Wednesday, 7 October. The conference Gala Dinner will be held at the National Museum of Australia and will include a pre-dinner gallery tour on Thursday, 8 October. Dual Olympic medalist, Jared Tallent, has agreed to lead off the Gala Dinner by escorting us on a walk from the hotel to the National Museum. On Saturday, 10 October, delegates are invited to a tour of the Australian Institute of Sport, followed by lunch and wine tasting at one of Canberra’s great wineries! For further details of speakers and program click here.
The Paul Trisley Award will be presented at the Gala Dinner to a person who, in the judge’s opinion, submits the best paper in accordance with the Award guidelines (further details are available here) and who has never presented at the Annual ANZSLA Conference before.
Early Bird Registration is available until 24 August 2009
